Rich Inferrera has been called upon to design and build
a personalized A/V system for one of the first London
Taxi vehicles sold in America.
The package was designed by Inferrera and assembled
at his renowned installation facility, Rich’s Car Tunes
(www.cartunes.com) located just outside of Boston, Mass.
One of the first issues Inferrera addressed with the
utilitarian vehicle was interior noise. “I decided to
incorporate sound deadening material throughout the
passenger compartment to help quiet the diesel engine,”
said Inferrera. “My customer requested rear-seat video
for his three children and a navigation system, along
with good, clean audio,” explained the veteran
installer.
The London Taxi utilizes two opposing rear seats, so
Inferrera’s team outfitted the vehicle with two 16x9
ratio LCD screens, a 10-inch drop-down on the ceiling
and a seven-inch fixed-mount in the rear-most portion of
the headliner.
In order to drive the navigation, audio, and video
systems in one concise package, Inferrera selected the
Pioneer AVIC-N1 in-dash controller, and added Pioneer’s
XM Satellite Radio receiver for expanded programming
capability. Alpine SPS series loudspeakers were
incorporated into the front and rear of the Taxi, and
Inferrera even added Apple iPod inputs, a custom
fabricated iPod mount (also housed the AVIC-N1 remote),
and 110-volt outlets for the kid’s gaming systems.
“I loved working on the London Taxi, it is an A-Plus
little car,” said Inferrera enthusiastically. Noting
that the vehicle did not use any OEM-based data bus
systems and comes equipped with power door locks,
Inferrera is looking forward to incorporating other
aftermarket systems such as security, remote start, and
more elaborate audio packages. The London Taxi can be
